"This cart is one of the most comprehensive, easy to use, extensible systems I have ever seen. The plugin architecture is excellent for future needs and the community support is great. Good to see a popular open source system working so well. "

"I worry about the underlying code for the prices of items... any savvy person can copy the source code, change the prices, and make their own web page which adds to your cart with their changed prices. This is what happened with Paypal when they used this same type of old coding. I like the simplicity of this cart but not at the expense of such a security hole."

"[update to previous post, version number was wrong]
I'd used this a while back for a small site and it worked - wasn't too flashy but it did the job.
Have tried it for a more recent job but serious performance issues when you scale up the number of products - even at a few thousand it struggles, and the site I'm building will eventually have around 250,000.
So its quite usable for the lower end. "

"nopCommerce is probably the best free .net shopping cart. It has pluggable architecture that allows additional functionality and presentation elements to be dynamically added to the application at run-time. Some of its main advantages are that it is multilanguage, supports search engine friendly URL, provides some extra features such as blog, forum, CMS and polls.
However it does have some defects:
• Advanced search does not work if there is no search keyword and it is not designed to search into more than one category/manufacturer
• Visual defects –tabs should have a clickable style (cursor: pointer)
• The checkout process takes too many steps (Cart, Address, Shipping, Payment, Confirm, Complete) - some of the checkout steps could be merged and/or it would be nice to have express checkout option. The ‘guest’ checkout is currently as long as the standard checkout.
• Soma AJAX and visual enhancements are needed to make it look like a real web 2.0 solution: For example when clicking add to cart there is no need to go to the cart page directly and instead of a Javascript alert the message should be displayed on the page (this is would be a more user-friendly solution).

"We're using this product for our website www.4the.com.au and found it to be pretty flexible and very intuitive for the administrator. It does seem to have some heavy server requirements but we do have ~3500 products online included. At Last they are putting out some decent documentation which is also very useful."
